You can see the same provider every time you need care, so you can develop a personal relationship with them, and they can help you stay up to date on your screenings and tests. You also have access to a dedicated Care Team that can help you check your vitals, coordinate lab and imaging orders, assist with referrals to specialists, and answer questions.

Surgical care
If you need surgery, Lantern is a special program that connects you to a board-certified surgeon with extensive experience and handles the details from scheduling to paperwork to follow-up, so you can focus on your health.
Depending on your medical plan, when you use Lantern for a covered planned surgery, you may have few or even no out-of-pocket costs for the procedure.
- For members enrolled in the BCBSIL PPO plan: Deductible and coinsurance are waived when using Lantern for covered surgeries.
- For members enrolled in the BCBSIL QHDHP: Coinsurance is waived after the IRS minimum deductible has been met.
How it works
Surgeries and procedures covered under Lantern include joint replacements; colonoscopies; cardiac procedures; ear, nose, and throat surgery; gynecologic surgery; bariatric surgery; and many more. Call a Lantern Care Advocate to see if your specific procedure is covered.

Virtual physical therapy
Manage knee, hip, shoulder, neck, and back pain without having to drive to an appointment. Sword Health is a free benefit offering convenient, effective, in-home physical therapy to help you manage musculoskeletal pain, recover from injury or surgery, and improve mobility.
How it works
With Sword, you get:
- One-to-one video sessions with a licensed physical therapist to replace or supplement in-person physical therapy
- Sensor technology that provides real-time feedback, so you can improve your exercise form and feel relief sooner
- No deductible or copayment (unlike PT through your medical plan)
Your dedicated physical therapist will design an exercise program to meet your needs. Depending on your program, you may receive a tablet and motion sensors to guide you and provide real-time feedback. Your physical therapist will be available for support throughout your therapy program.
