Commuter Benefits

You can’t control the traffic delays, construction, and bad weather you encounter on your daily commute, but you can control how much you spend on your trips to and from the office. Your commuter benefits, administered by Optum Financial, help you keep more money in your pocket by paying for eligible transit and parking expenses with pre-tax dollars. From subway passes to parking near your office, this benefit turns your daily commute into real savings.

How it works

You can enroll for commuter benefits at any time.

When you enroll, you choose how much to contribute to your account through pre-tax paycheck deductions. In 2026, you can set aside up to $340 per month to cover transit expenses, and up to $340 per month to cover parking costs for your work commute.

Optum Financial will then send you a reloadable prepaid payment card that you can use for qualified transit and parking payments. Alternatively, you can also choose to have Optum mail you a monthly transit pass or a voucher you can use to purchase a transit pass.

Get started

Enroll on the Optum portal (auto sign-on with SSO | log in).

Once you’re enrolled and signed in to your account, select the Commuter tab to manage your commuter benefits. There, you can place orders, view your credit amounts, load funds onto a transit card, and set up recurring orders.

You can make changes or cancel orders until your order deadline, which is displayed on the home page of the Commuter portal.

Eligible expenses

Eligible commuter expenses cover a wide range of transportation costs for getting to work, including:

  • Trains, buses, subways, ferries
  • Vanpools and commuter highway vehicles
  • Work-related parking near your office or at a location where you connect to other transportation

Your commuter benefits cannot be used to pay for tolls, expenses for dependents, taxis, private Uber or Lyft rides, or UberX Share rides.
